It was from the couple Júlio and Maria José de Barros Evangelista that the desire arose to create a space that would serve as a refuge for those who wanted to experience Portuguese culture, which embraced traditional Fado and typical gastronomy.

Inspired by the famous fado singer Maria Severa Onofriana, the restaurant A Severa, located in Bairro Alto, is a stage for local artists and visitors who share the same desire to discover and appreciate Fado in its purest sense.

Since its inauguration in 1955, “A Severa” has been run by the same family, the 4 generations that have passed through here have allowed this Fado House not to lose its essence and authenticity. Regarding its values, “A Severa” wanted to ensure that respect for good Fado and Portuguese cuisine was a priority that would never be changed.

This space has always provided a cozy atmosphere, marked by the connection between the artist and the public, its typically Portuguese decoration has never changed and has allowed to preserve the tradition.
