In many Lisbon families, fado isn’t just music; it’s heritage. Grandparents tell stories of when fado houses were lit by candlelight, when the sheet music was treasured and how each verse became an exercise in shared memories. The grandchildren, on the other hand, have grown up in a digital world where they consume fado on streaming playlists, perform “virtual duets” on TikTok and compose lyrics on their smartphone notepads.

This meeting of voices seeks to capture that creative clash: how the melancholy of traditional fado merges with – or opposes – the innovative spirit of the new generations. We want the audience to feel the tension and complicity that arise from this dialog: the hoarse voice of someone who lived in Bairro Alto in the 1950s echoing in a classic verse, while the young voice explores unusual arrangements, improvises contemporary rhythms or adds a rhyme that speaks of headphones and electrics.
