TO THE SOUND OF THE BEST FADO
A Severa was inaugurated in 1955, by the couple Júlio and Maria José de Barros Evangelista and is the oldest Fado House in Lisbon. Run by the same family for four generations, it is an active part of Fado history and important for the promotion of traditional Portuguese culture.
Located in one of the most typical neighbourhoods of the city – Bairro Alto – A Severa is famous for the authenticity and quality of its food and for its good Fado.
In a cozy candle light atmosphere, you can enjoy a memorable evening to the sound of Fado and the taste of
traditional Portuguese gastronomy.
The name “A Severa” was inspired by the story of the gipsy singer with the same name, who was, according to the legend that dates back to the 19th century, the most famous Fado singer of her time.

It is situated in one of the oldest and most emblematic quarters of the city, the Bairro Alto, a place where for centuries there was always a great tradition in the restoration and in the arts, combining these two factors our restaurant invites you to experience and to witness live our traditions and to spend a cozy evening to the taste of traditional Portuguese gastronomy famous for the quality of its products in the company of the song that goes in the soul of the Portuguese, the FADO.

Fado represents for the Portuguese people an art of expressing a melancholic or joyful state of soul. Given its cultural value, Fado was considered Intangible Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO in 2011, with Lisbon being the capital of this cultural movement.
